Silk Market's dubious "fame" as the fake goods depot is no more - the market has undergone a major revamp recently - its location moved from an open-air surrounding to inside a 5-storey building, fake goods are strictly banned, and the quality of the Chinese specialty products on offer there is monitored closely. Our guides will be there to help you with the bargaining.
- Locals report that some of the unscrupulous stall owners have adopted a sneakier strategy and will pull out counterfeit products when prompted. We'd like to advise you against buying fake branded-goods as (aside from the whole IP scenario) the cheap material used to manufacture them may pose serious health threats, and the vast majority of them are made using child labor or women at below sweatshop level wages.

Wangfujing is a pedestrian-only shopping street with major departments stores, malls and specialty stores. The tour lasts only 4 hours but you are free to stay as long as you want (until 21:30 the latest since most malls would close shop by then). Make sure you drop by Oriental Plaza - where the hip 20-somethings sporting the latest fashion and the suitted up gold-collar 30-somethings shop/windowshop and dine at some of the finest fusion restaurants in the city..

The Antique Bazaar requires a certain level of "training" (or intuitive skill) from a shopper for him/her to dig out that piece of authentic Song-era china among imitations. But if you are not the collector type, then shop away - as many of the so-called imitations serve as perfect showpieces in your home.
