This tour will provide visitors a good chance to explore the cities past, present and future. The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall is located in the city center just to the southeast of Tian’anmen Square. It is designed to introduce the long history of the immortal city of Beijing, display the great achievements of the modern urban planning and development, and exhibit the splendid future of Beijing's urban development. The 16,000 square-meter floor space is distributed on 4 floor levels in the Hall, with 8,000 square meters for exhibits.

The exhibits follows the evolution of the old city of Beijing with a large amount of photos, maps and exhibits among which are wells of the Han Dynasty and gate frusta and column heads of the Qing Dynasty, as well as models of courtyard houses and various gateways. The 3-D cinema with 120 degree screen has a number of short documentaries on repeat showing. Two of such films are The Immortal City - the 850-year history of Beijing as a capital city; and The New Beijing - the current achievements in the development of Beijing and the progress towards 2008.

The Qianmen Front Gate (Qianmen archery tower) stands at the south end of the Tian'anmen Square precinct, and was formerly the front gate of the Imperial City, a part of the ancient city of Beijing. First built in 1419, the gateway consists of a gatehouse proper and an archery tower. The present gate dates from 1914 and incorporates modern design elements suggested by German advisors. At 42 meters high, the gatehouse was, and still is, the tallest among all Beijing's old gates.
